Gyotaku Contemporary

Gyotaku; the art of fish printing. A practice originated by Japanese fishermen nearly 100 years ago to record fish that they had caught.
The process includes a fish or mold of a fish, paint, rice paper,
and an experienced hand. A fine fish print will reveal every scale
and the dorsal line. Traditional prints are done with black ink,
but I also like to create more contemporary prints with hand
coloring and collage elements incorporated into the finished print.
Either way, it is a fascinating art. |
